CSCMP's annual "State of Logistics Report" for 2008 inform that in 2008 U.S. logistics costs reached $1.3 trillion, or 9.4 percent of the country's $13.8 trillion gross domestic product (GDP). Transportation costs rose by 2 percent but inventory carrying costs declined 13.2 percent due to decreased inventories and lower interest rates. In 2007 the total logistics costs as a percent of GDP were 10.1 percent.
